Product Description

Palm sugar is a classic souvenir not only from Vietnam but from Southeast Asia in general. Strictly speaking, however, it is a specialty of countries and regions with tropical climates. In Japan, palm sugar is sometimes also called coconut sugar, but the two are slightly different. Palm sugar refers to pure sugar made from the sap of plants in the palm family, while coconut sugar refers specifically to sugar made from the coconut palm, one type within the palm family. In Vietnam, palm sugar made from fan palm is the most common.

This product contains 12 round pieces cut into convenient bite-sized portions. Together with its packaging, it is made into the perfect size for distributing as a souvenir.

The simple design is not overly flashy and offers a sense of luxury, while also being tasteful enough to give to senior colleagues, bosses, and other respected recipients.

The product is sourced, of course, from the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam, which lies in a tropical savanna climate zone. For travelers to Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta cities such as My Tho, known for jungle cruise tours, and Cai Be, known for day trips to floating markets, may be familiar. However, YUGOC sources its palm sugar from an even more remote area. It comes from a rural region more than six hours by bus from Ho Chi Minh City, from farming families whose livelihood is the production of palm sugar.
